Beyond That Nothing is Certain
What figure is more tragic than the motherless child? And what figure is more forbidden than the mother who walks away? With Beyond that Nothing…, one of Scandinavia’s leading literary voices creates a deconstructed melodrama — a theoretical tear-jerker — to walk open-eyed among the things that are not allowed.
World-renowned Costa Rican choreographer, Rogelio López, teams up with Binghamton University faculty and students to create an entirely new collaborative production. López, who has dedicated his career to movement and the investigation of it as a universal human expression, will be exploring the theme of “the person and nature” in this original dance-theater work.
I appeared in the play Carbon, written by Pier Lorenzo Pisano (Italy), translated by Carlotta Brentan, and directed by Samuel Buggeln.
“A man has had an encounter that could change everything. In a small room with him, a brilliant interrogator [that’s me!] tries to find the truth. With rollicking humor and startling twists, Carbon explores what it means to be carbon-based life in the infinity of the universe.”
E-motion, a movement-based collaboration is conceived by two award-winning artists, Cherry Collective playwright Saviana Stanescu and choreographer Daniel Gwirtzman. The story they have developed explores artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and what it means to be human, taking form through Stanescu’s mind-bending text and Gwirtzman’s intricate choreography. The resulting work is a hybridized form where dance meets theater. Mozer is the voice of Ava, a neuroscientist who creates an AI “creature” for scholarly and public consumption. What could go wrong?
